Happy New Year!

As with every year for the last few, I place focus on my "Year of___". A concept created by my friend Kim Gunn-Stone, the "Year of..." is my opportunity to dedicate a year to a concept I choose to explore, to delight in, to live fully, and achieve a level of mastery. I know what my 2015 Year of will be: my "Year of Fun & Silliness!" No joke!

My personality veers towards the serious side. In fact, in some cases my idea of "fun" might be what others call "work". As an example, on my newly begun list of "fun things to do" along with blowing bubbles, swinging on my porch swing, and hula- hooping, is DECORATING!

I LOVE the interior décor work that Natalie and I do! I LOVE the creative problem-solving, the brainstorming, the "just right" final products. It's like working to solve a giant puzzle that just happens to be 3-D, multi-facetted, and where the correctness of the answer (the appeal) is judged by someone else (our client). No same-task-every-day job for me, thank you very much! Interior décor, with all its myriad components, is very satisfying work!

To ramp up the fun for me (and for Nat, too) we are seriously spreading our wings this month. In November we announced our new Transition Decorating Service, a special focus on décor for clients who are down-sizing, who have made the choice to move from the big "family-sized" home to a more petit-sized dwelling. This month, we will be partnering with Jane Leonard of Coldwell Banker Gundaker, a Seniors Real Estate Specialist Sales Agent. Jane has begun a series of seminars on various down-sizing related topics called "Seniors On the Move". This month's seminar will be: Staging to Sell, the art and the benefits of Real Estate Staging.

Here are some of the topics that Jane, Natalie, and I will address in the seminar:

• Quick & easy tips to get your home ready for sale.
• Hiring a professional stager versus doing it yourself.
• What to repair and what to replace.
• Saving money by staging your home before listing it.

This last point is the most compelling reason I know to have your home professionally staged to sell. I read this on-line and thought the writer said it well: "Your first price reduction is always more than the cost of a professional staging fee!" By not having the most eye-catching and appealing product when your home first goes on the market you risk delays in selling and price markdowns.

The Staging to Sell seminar will take place:

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 ♦ 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Kirkwood Public Library
140 E. Jefferson (Lower Level)
Kirkwood, MO 63122

If you would like to attend, please RSVP by calling Jane Leonard at: 314-657-7962. Space is limited! Call ASAP to RSVP!

In addition to Jane's "Seniors On the Move" free seminars, Jane offers comparative market analyses and referrals to qualified professionals who handle downsizing-related issues.

Nat and I hope to speak at a future Seniors On the Move seminar: on how Transition Decorating eases the trauma of the down-sized move... otherwise known as our "You Unpack ~ We Beautify" plan.

Beneath Still Waters a novel by Cynthia A. Graham

Meet the Author
Cynthia A. Graham was born in St. Louis, Missouri. As a child she spent every weekend and vacation in the cotton belt of Missouri where she grew to love the mystery and beauty of the stark, delta plane. Cynthia graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a B.A. in English. She has won several awards for her short stories and has been published in a number of anthologies. Beneath Still Waters is her first novel.

Book Overview
The swamps and bayous around Cherokee Crossing, Arkansas have always been dark and mysterious, but on this summer day two boys stumble across the remains of a baby girl, headless and badly decomposed. Hick Blackburn, a reluctant sheriff with a troubled past is called to the scene. With nothing to go on except the baby's race and sex, the task of discovering who she is and how she died challenges all of Hick's investigative skills. But Hick faces a deeper challenge. The vision of the infant has left him shattered, a reminder of a war crime he has tried to lock away, a crime that has begun to eat away at the edges of his life, destroying him one relationship at a time.

With the aid of his deputies, Hick will begin to piece together his investigation, an investigation that will lead him to question everything. As he is forced to examine the town he grew up in, he will come to terms with the notion that within each of us lays the propensity for both good and evil. His investigation will turn up lies and ignorance, scandal and deceit, and the lengths a mother will go in order to hide her shame.
